Green New Wedding: Making Eco-Friendly Decisions
May 01, 2019 12:40 PM Back
New Long Island couples are not only in love with each other, but also “in love” with the environment and they are very conscientious about preserving it….even on their wedding day. While many still want all the pomp and circumstance they do not want all the wanton waste often associated with lavish and extravagant affairs. But can couples really have the best of both worlds…it seems they can if they are willing to compromise, which is what marriage is all about anyway.
Supply and Demand: Even if you want to go “over-the-top”, there’s no need to go out-of-town. In fact, you’ll find it to your advantage to work with local venues and local businesses and suppliers. You may even want to consider looking into hiring local talent including bar bands for your entertainment, upcoming chefs (from local schools) if you’re having an outdoor fete, etc. You may also want to work with local farmers for farm fresh meats, poultry, fruits and veggies for a delish and nutrish farm to table menu.
Use Recycled Materials as your Something Old and Something New: Consider recycled materials such as paper for your stationary from invites to seating cards and thank you notes….or do everything on line for even less of a paper trail.
Buy Laws: Consider renting your dress instead of buying it, just like your groom is doing with his tuxedo. In fact, chances are if he buys his tux he will use it again, but wearing your dress again, even if you renew your vows is likely not an option. Even if you pay slightly more, make sure to support local mom and pop stores so that your money is not going to often wasteful conglomerates….you may even be able to work out a (more affordable) deal.
A Gem of an Idea: Consider an antique ring or an heirloom ring rather than a brand new diamond. You may also want to consider your grandparents’ or great grandparents’ wedding bands instead of custom creations.
Host a Local Brew Ha-ha: Consider serving up wines from local wineries, beers from local distilleries and even vodka from local potato farms…and above all buy all-American products.
